Most Vitamin D3 is made from lanolin, (derived from sheep's wool), which is facing global shortages. Lichen, another source of D3, takes decades to re-grow and is not sustainable in the longer term. Vitamin D from mushrooms is in the form of D2 - ergocalciferol, not D3 – cholecalciferol and nowhere near as biologically effective. Recent studies show that Vitamin D3 may be 87% more effective than D2 at raising and maintaining serum levels of Vitamin D.
