L-OptiZinc® 20mg Zinc as Mono-Methionine, not affected by dietary fiber and does not have a negative effect on copper absorption/status.

Description

AlchePharma® Zinc 20 mg is formulated with L-OptiZinc®, a patented zinc mono-L-methionine chelate developed and manufactured by Lonza (formerly InterHealth). Rather than supplying zinc as an inorganic salt—the form used in most conventional zinc oxide or zinc sulfate supplements—L-OptiZinc® binds zinc to L-methionine, an essential amino acid, in a stable 1:1 complex. This chelation strategy is covered by multiple U.S. and international patents (U.S. Patent Nos. 3,941,818 and 5,278,329) describing the specific reaction process used to produce the complex.

Higher absorption vs. zinc sulfate†
1:1
Zinc–methionine chelate

The rationale behind amino-acid chelation is absorptive, not cosmetic. The intestinal mucosa is comparatively inefficient at transporting free inorganic mineral ions, but highly efficient at transporting amino acids and small peptides via dedicated carrier systems. By presenting zinc bound to methionine, L-OptiZinc® is absorbed through these amino-acid transport pathways rather than relying on passive mineral diffusion.† Comparative animal studies have reported absorption of zinc methionine as much as 208% higher than zinc sulfate, along with elevated and more sustained plasma zinc concentrations relative to other zinc forms tested.† Critically, this absorption advantage is largely preserved in the presence of dietary fiber and phytates—plant compounds that are well documented to bind free zinc ions in the gut and substantially reduce their bioavailability from ordinary supplements.†

Zinc itself is a cofactor for more than 300 enzymes and is required for normal function of the immune system, including T-cell, B-cell, natural killer cell, and macrophage activity.† It is a structural component of Cu/Zn-superoxide dismutase (SOD), a primary intracellular antioxidant enzyme, and preclinical research has associated zinc methionine specifically with stronger antioxidant activity than several other zinc forms tested, including reduced markers of lipid peroxidation and oxidative DNA damage.† Zinc is also required for normal insulin storage and secretion, for connective tissue and wound repair, and for healthy prostate and male reproductive tissue function.†

Each tablet is manufactured in the United States to deliver 20 mg of elemental zinc (182% Daily Value) as L-OptiZinc®, formulated without sugar, salt, dairy, yeast, wheat, gluten, corn, soy, preservatives, or artificial colors or flavors—consistent with AlchePharma®'s broader clean-label manufacturing standard.

What makes this product different

1
Patented chelation chemistry: A 1:1 zinc–L-methionine complex protected by U.S. Patents 3,941,818 and 5,278,329 — not a generic mineral salt.
2
Superior comparative absorption: Reported in comparative studies to be absorbed up to 208% higher than zinc sulfate and retained longer in tissue.†
3
Fiber- and phytate-resistant: Absorption is substantially preserved in the presence of dietary fiber and phytates that impair uptake of other zinc forms.†
4
Documented antioxidant activity: Associated in preclinical research with stronger antioxidant effects than several other zinc forms tested.†
5
Copper-neutral: Does not exhibit the negative effect on copper absorption/status associated with some high-dose zinc regimens.†
6
Regulatory distinction: The only high-potency zinc supplement FDA-approved safe for human nutrition.

Cautions or use restrictions: If you are pregnant, nursing, taking medication, or have a medical condition, consult your healthcare professional before use. Keep out of reach of children. L-OptiZinc® and the L-OptiZinc® logo are trademarks of Lonza or its affiliates.
