Vitamin D reduces lung disease flare-ups by over 40 percent

- Patients with a vitamin D deficiency benefited dramatically from taking the supplements but the striking reduction in flare-ups was not seen among patients who had a higher vitamin D status at the start of the trial. However, researchers did find vitamin D supplementation modestly reduced the severity and duration of flare-up symptoms in all patients in the vitamin D group, regardless of their baseline vitamin D levels, compared to the placebo group.

We review the research " Association between vitamin D deficiency and heart failure risk in the elderly " in which they reported a 12.2 times increased risk of heart failure among those with low Vitamin D levels.

Vitamin D supplements protect against severe asthma attacks. We look at the meta-analysis conducted by the Lancet which showed the possible benefits of oral vitamin D supplementation reducing the likelihood of a severe asthma attack.

Study: Link between vitamin D and dementia risk confirmed

- The study found that people with low levels of vitamin D had a 53-percent increased risk of developing dementia and those who were severely deficient had a 125-percent increased risk compared to participants with normal levels of vitamin D.

People with lower levels of vitamin D were nearly 70 percent more likely to develop Alzheimer's disease and those who had severe deficiency were over 120 percent more likely to develop the disease.
